Spatial exposure is one of the strongest arguments. It provides the ability to place light in selected ranges of depth in the image—e.g., warm glow in the foreground or cool light in the background. You can effortlessly steer the viewer’s attention with adjustable radii and color values and create a harmonious lighting scheme. Combined with flash simulation, this brings an entirely new post-production lighting design approach. The position of the simulated flash is chosen at will; shadows and light gradients are computed automatically from the depth map. The result is a realistic representation of studio lighting conditions—without extra hardware.
Atmospheric effects are included in the software as well. The blueing simulation effect relies on the physical principles of light scattering: in nature, distant objects typically appear to be blue because of moisture and particles in the atmosphere that pass short-wave and absorb long-wave light. Accelerated Vision allows for selective suppression or enhancement of the effect—either to enhance natural depth or deliberately discard it in order to create clean, defined distant regions. The blueing may be gradually adjusted over the depth of the image and color-calibrated.
And for those that want to transform their images into a new visual experience, the package also sports an inbuilt 3D anaglyph view. This enables the production of stereoscopic 3D images viewable using red-cyan glasses. Depending on the depth map, a left-right offset is simulated and the image displayed with a genuine three-dimensional effect – ideal for presentations, experiments, or artistic use.
